- Biography/History:
- The tea company was founded in the Dimbula Valley, Sri Lanka, January 1896 with the object of acquiring, working, developing 2,091 acres of land for the production of Ceylon tea. Dimbula Ceylon tea is known for its distinctive strong, fragrant flavor. The inaugural directors were James Sinclair, chairman and managing director, William Forbes Laurie, and Charles James Rowe. The company initially sold 40,000 shares with 20,000 ordinary and 10,000 preference shares.
