Schimmel Collection copy 1 has on second blank leaf following front free endpaper dated 20th-century ms. inscription ("To one of the best of Men, one of the best of friends - George Hamlin Fitch from Idah Meacham Strobridge June 6th 1906") recording the gift of this volume from the author to George Hamlin Fitch.
Schimmel Collection copy 1 has on blank leaf preceding half-title leaf autograph ("George Washington Meacham") followed by ms. note ("who illuminated this book was born August 19th, 1827; and this is his autograph."). George Washington Meacham (1827-1914) is the author's father. The text decorations are hand-colored by Meacham.
Schimmel Collection copy 1 bound by the Artemisia Bindery in three-quarter gold-ruled red leather over marbled boards; gold-ruled spine panels; title, ornament, and author's surname stamped in gold on spine; marbled endpapers; untrimmed fore- and tail edges; illustrated front wrapper and blank back wrapper bound in.
Schimmel Collection copy 1: "This volume was bound at the Artemisia Bindery in Los Angeles, California, on the Twentieth day of May in the year MCMVi and is numbered 967 Signed by Idah M.
