- Summary:
- This study by Deters (English Language Institute, Seneca College, Canada) examines the professional integration of high-skilled immigrants in Ontario, Canada, with a focus on immigrant teachers, justifying this focus with reference to the employment difficulties faced by foreign-trained teachers, the possibility for immigrant teachers to fill the need for more diverse teaching populations, and the fact that issues of professional language proficiency and acculturation are particularly critical in the teaching profession. He adopts sociocultural theory and its treatment of issues of identity, agency, and mediation and the community of practice framework in order to explore the issue.
