Summary:
"The neoclassical theories that underlie the neo-liberal analysis of the economy, have been harshly criticized. Economists are deeply divided today. Economic expertise has been exhausted for its management of the 2008 crisis. Yet these diatribes have not shaken the prevailing belief in the scientific nature of the discipline. It is that it deploys an effect of scientificity, based on its mathematization, on the resulting effect of transparency, and on the infalsifiable nature of economic modeling, which rules out the denials inflicted by the practice. To measure the price paid by the discipline, it is necessary to return to its foundations, to measure their inconsistency and uninterpretability. It will be seen that economic calculability is based on the myth of an impossible informative transparency, on a model of rationality that can not be found, excluding any criticism of its power, a dangerous factor of crisis. By attempting to form science on the model of physics, neo-classical economics ends up renouncing the truth and founding a mythology based on the cutting of models and narratives"--Translation of French text from back cover.
