- Summary:
- Parchment covered volume comprising formulas for prescriptions spanning fifteen years from 1882 to 1897. There are over 2,200 prescriptions in the volume written in several hands. The volume was probably created by a pharmacy or druggist's shop located in Sandwich, Kent, United Kingdom. The drugstore served Sandwich and surrounding towns such as Ash, Canterbury, and Eastry. The prescriptions are arranged chronologically and in numerical order beginning with number 10171 and ending with number 12381. Written for each numerical entry is the patients name, street or town, formula, and the initials or name of the chemist or physician. Some items list the patient dosage and instructions. Ailments or titles of the prescriptive formulas are rarely listed. A recipe for Mrs. Belsey's mixed roots is on the first flyleaf. Prescriptions 10171 to 12381 is written on the front cover suggesting there were several volumes. "P 10171 to 12381" is written on the spine.
