- Summary:
- Seismologists, other geologists, and a number of other specialists summarize the current understanding of using natural markers to identify prehistoric earthquakes and provide information on their date, strength, and other features. Such insights could be used to assess the risk of future earthquakes in a particular area. The topics include large-magnitude late Holocene seismic activity in the Pereira-Armenia region of Colombia, multiple-trench investigations across the newly ruptured segment of the El Pilar fault in northeastern Venezuela after the 1997 Cariaco earthquake, and a model-based approach to estimating rupture length and paleomagnitude from point measurements of displacement. There is no index. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
