- Summary:
- The rich theatrical tradition of Salzburg was once inseparable from the Benedictine University. The university comedies at the end of the academic year, performed by the students with the help of musicians of the court, were especially popular and accessible to all citizens of the city. Michael Haydn also provided original contributions, such as the music for this delightful dramatic joke and teaching poem by the Benedictine priest Florian Reichssiegel. The mind in the form of the mentor, with the help of the three graces, the daughters of nature, seeks true art. On their journey of discovery, the four come across again and again odd types, such as the vain singer Mr. Vollstreich, the boastful painter Herr von Wurmstich or the rough schoolmaster Bockstolz and his wife Urschel. There are scenes that make the search for art not only instructive, but also highly amusing.
