Summary:
This volume provides a translation of the complete poetry and fu of the canonical writer Ruan Ji (ca. 223-ca. 262) in a new context that does not read the poet as a loyalist of the Wei dynasty, but rather as someone who wanted to stay alive in dangerous times. The volume also introduces English-language readers to the poetic works of Xi Kang, one of the most acclaimed medieval Chinese writers. Book jacket.
