Summary:
In the years 1950, a major change took place in São Paulo: modern architects were further ordered by a revamped real estate industry. In little more than 10 years, the most iconic buildings in the city were created, thanks to the alliance of talented architects like Oscar Niemeyer, David Libeskind, Franz Heep, with daring entrepreneurs, among them Artacho Jurado, Octavio Frias de Oliveira and José Tjurs. Copan, Itália and UN, Conjunto Nacional, commercial mall Grandes Galerias (now known as "Galeria do Rock") and several other buildings of great architectural quality were erected at this time and shaped the image of the capital, reflecting its strength, dynamism and modernity. In "São Paulo nas alturas" the author reconstructs this important period, showing the astonishing trajectory of its main characters, men and women who gave new direction to the architecture, construction and urban life in Brazil. The book comprises 98 pictures and a guide of the buildings in São Paulo. aUTHOR Raul Juste Lores is a journalist, researcher of architecture and urbanism and special reporter of the "Folha de São Paulo". In the same newspaper, he was editor of the book "Mercado" and correspondent in Washington, New York, Pekin and Buenos Aires. In 2011, he received the prize Difusão from APCA for his work in architecture.
