Summary:
Hardly any other personality was written about more by the ancients than Alexander the Great. Is it surprising given his extraordinary campaigns of conquest and the fact that after his reign, the ancient world was never the same again? Nevertheless, or perhaps because of that, the biography of Alexander the Great and the history of his era is surrounded by legend and difficult to reconstruct. This circumstance is primarily due to the extreme complexity of the sources, because the once numerous reports of contemporaries are almost completely lost and accessible only through the works of later authors. This is the first translation into German of the testimonies and fragments of the historians of the Alexander era.
