Summary:
The neighborhood of San Francisco is part of the Historic Downtown of the city of Campeche, and is located outside the perimeter of the fortified walls and is one of the suburbs where the largest number of patrimonial listed properties is concentrated. This neighborhood was an original Mayan pre-Hispanic settlement that developed outside the village, later transformed into the city of Campeche, during the Viceroyalty. In the 19th century, it was fully integrated to the city, as a result of the installation of infrastructure within its boundaries and by the presence of commercial axis and nodes of great importance. The construction of residential units boomed in the first half of that 19th century. The revaluation of the houses of the 19th century aims to halt the loss of their structures and properties. While the neighborhood is still residential, scarce recognition that their inhabitants have of their original characteristics keeps these historic buildings in constant danger of modification and of gradual loss of the urban memory of the city.
