- Summary:
- Ferdinand Hodler (1853-1918) is one of the most important Swiss artists of the early 20th century. Within Symbolism and Art Nouveau, he developed a distinctive style. The exhibition "Ferdinand Hodler: Painter of Early Modernism" in the Bundeskunsthalle has been the first comprehensive retrospective in Germany for almost 20 years and takes place in cooperation with the Kunstmuseum Bern. With around 100 paintings, the exhibition provides an insight into the artist's work on the threshold of modernity. Hodler's tendency to ornament and formal repetition were considered novel by contemporary critics. The accompanying publication shows the artistic spectrum of this exceptional artist. Exhibition: Bundeskunsthalle Bonn, Germany (08.09.2017-28.01.2018).
