- "Bréval's Sonata in C Major is the first of the Six Sonates non difficiles pour le violoncelle, op. 40 ... . As a concert piece the sonata can be accompanied by a second cello in Bréval's original version, by a piano, or by both instruments together. The present present edition is based on Bréval's first edition. The well-known piano accompaniment by Joachim Stutschewsky (1891-1982) has been modified -- The piano setting was deliberately reduced and simplified, with the left hand being readjusted to match the Basso part and the harmonies adapted to the two-part original.
