- Summary:
-- Container.
- This film tells the story of Balduino, who is black and poor, and sent to work for a rich white family after he is orphaned as a boy. When he falls in love with Lindinalva, the beautiful daughter of the house, he is forced to run away to escape charges of sexual abuse. Later in life, after stints as a boxer and tobacco plantation worker, he unexpectedly reunites with Lindinalva, who is now a prostitute. The film also tells the story of Balduino's involvement with labor strikes, and the effects of that involvement on his relationship with his old friend, Jubiabá.
