- 화랑세기는 판본이 전하지 않고 〈삼국사기〉에 극히 일부가 인용되어 있습니다. 1989년에 조선 후기의 필사본으로 보이는 〈화랑세기〉가 발견되었으며, 이곳에 서술되어 있는 내용은 가히 충격적으로 근친혼(近親婚)·동성애·다부제(多夫制) 등 고대사회의 실상이 생생하게 그려져 있습니다. 아직 이 책의 위작 여부가 판명되지 않아 분명하게 단정지을 수는 없으나 이것이 진본이라면 고려시대 이전에 씌어진 역사서로, 유교의 영향을 받지 않은 사서 중에는 최초로 발견된 사서가 되며, 고대사뿐만 아니라 중세 사학사 연구에도 획기적인 자료가 될 것입니다.
