Summary:
The study of psychology has been looked upon for a long time as an essential phase of the professional education of the teacher. The following chapters represent an attempt to formulate psychological principles in terms of conduct or behavior. The authors believe that this "functional" point of view in psychology offers a helpful perspective upon the problems of classroom teaching, explaining many of the phenomena with which every teacher must deal, and which, unexplained, tend to irritate and confuse; and providing at least a few guiding principles that may be directly applied to the solution of troublesome problems in instruction and management.
