Most of the articles embodied in this book have been published during the last seven years in Pastoral Psychology, a monthly journal devoted to the integration of the scientific knowledge of human behavior with spiritual and religious values. The book is divided into four sections. Section 1: Body, Mind, and Spirit, represents the thinking of several outstanding psychiatrists and psychologists who have been deeply concerned with the subject of this volume--man's search for wholeness. Section 2: Religion and Psychiatry, is made up of articles by a group of outstanding theologians who have early in their lives and work become cognizant of, and have been profoundly influenced by, the tremendous contribution of dynamic psychology and psychiatry to our understanding of man, his needs and motivations, and whose work has become a synthesis of the most profound aspects of both theology and psychology. Section 3: Prayer, is devoted to a spiritual as well as psychological exploration of the meaning of prayer in man's search for both wholeness and relationship to God. Section 4: Spiritual Healing, is a series of studies by some of the most outstanding theologians and psychiatrists in this country, analyzing the deep significance of faith in spiritual healing as distinguished from magic and pure psychotherapy. The series of articles embodied in this book, though written separately and individually, have obviously a deep and common concern with man's search for wholeness and salvation. It is this common concern which makes out of these separate and individual articles a book of spontaneous and organized purposeful meaning.
