Containing the principal acts and statutes made by the Parliaments of Scotland, in favours of the true protestant religion and presbyterial Church-government, from the Revolution (1690.) to the incorporating union with England (1707.) With an abridgment of the other laws respecting religion, from the Restoration (1660.) to the present time. To all which is subjoined an index of the principal contents of these collections. The whole making up a genuine history of the legal establishment of religion in Scotland, from the Reformation (1560.) to the present year 1749. and wherein care is taken to distinguish the laws which were rescinded, from the laws that were never declared to be so.

(not refcinded) was holden by himfelf 1n Perfon. For prieventing fuch of you as have not Accef's to be bet ter infornied, from being fnrprifed at the ?ow nrefs, fre qucnt Interruption, and at length. Overturning of the Settle ment of Religion 1n this Period, it is informed, That altho' according to the Claim of Rigfit, this Nation was reformed fiompoperjy by Presbyters; and tho' the great Mr. Knox, and our other Reformers, did as much as could be expected of Men in their Circu'm?ances particularly, though the Con' fc?ion of Faith was ratified 1n Parliament, and the fir? Book of Difcipline. Which contains the E?'entials of Presbytery was agreed on by the Mini tiers, and fubfcribed by a great Part of the Privy Council, borh 1n the 1560. Moreover, tho' the fecond Book of Difcipline, wherein the Form of Presby retial Government and Difcipline 18 more diilint'tly laid down. Was approven and reg ifirateb the General All'embl amza 1581. And appointed to be fubblzribed by all the Minill'crs of this Church anno 1590. And, in like Manner, though the Na~ tional Covenant was fubfcribed by the King and his Houfhold in the Year 1580. And by Perfons of all Ranks 011710 1581 ...
