General Guillaum, fransk general, deltog i 2. Verdenskrig bl.a. som chef for den franske 3. infanteridivison. Staks efter krigens ophør blev han af de Gaulle sendt til Moskva som militærattache (1945-47) med den skjulte opgave, at finde ud af hvordan det lykkedes Den Røde Hær at sejre og underforstået: hvad var der gået galt for den franske hær og kunne man nu lære noget af Den Røde Hær. Det kom der to bøger ud af: "Pourquoi l'Armée Rouge a vaincu" (1948) og "La guerre germano-soviétique 1941-1945" (1949). Førstnævnte findes her i engelsk oversættelse. Haves også i tysk oversættelse: "Warum siegte die Rote Armee?".
