Summary:
This book describes those events leading up to the creation of the State of Czechoslovakia. Although World War I was a great tragedy for everybody, Czechoslovakia did better than most other countries because they got their independence, due primarily to the efforts of Thomas Masaryk. Prior to that, it had been part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. At the time of the writing of this book, Thomas Masaryk was the President of the country. He continued as president until 14 December 1935, when he resigned for health reasons. He died on 14 September 1937 and shortly thereafter the Germans marched in and took over his country.
