- Summary:
- Excerpt from A Brief History of Montenegro: To Which Is Added a Short Account of Bulgaria, Compiled From Mackenzie and Baker This little Montenegro, indeed, is one of the most interesting countries in the world. Its his tory is full of the most romantic heroism; and obscure as that history is, preserved only by faint pz'esmas, or poetical traditions, it deserves a place beside the annals of Switzerland and of Sparta. Its aspect is ruggedly majestic; no scenery in Europe exhibits nature more vividly in its more sombre and awful manifestations. Its customs and habits are perhaps more curious than those of any people extant in Europe. Its religious and political institutions are not only well worthy the study Of the ethnologist, but are replete with curiosities calculated to attract the cursory reader.
