Summary:
The 2nd ELIMED (MEDical and multidisciplinary applications at ELI) Workshop and Panel was held in order to reinforce the joint collaboration, based on a Memorandum of Understanding signed in May 2012 by ELI-Beamlines (IoP-ASCR) and LNS (INFN), which aims at initiating a scientific and technological program related to medical applications foreseen at ELI Beamlines. This includes, in particular, the investigation of new approaches, based on laser-driven proton sources, for potential future applications in the field of hadron-therapy. Nevertheless this scientific collaboration will involve a wide range of applications connected to the use of laser-driven proton beams. Within this framework, the aim of the 2nd ELIMED workshop was to constitute several task groups of international specialists: they are now in charge of working on the conceptual design of this core beamline of the ELI-Beamlines facility in the Czech Republic. The workshop gathered more than 65 specialists of different disciplines like Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Material Science, Medical Physicists and Medical Doctors coming from Europe, Japan and the US. They contributed to high-level presentations and discussions on the ELIMED program topics.
