Summary:
Annotation Ketsdever (U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory) and Muntz (U. of Southern California) present 91 papers and two invited lectures from the July 2002 symposium. The symposium organizing committee identified several "emerging focus areas" which received special attention: micro- and nano-scale flows, hybrid modeling, kinetic treatment of plasmas, rarefied gas dynamics applications, and gas-surface interactions. Other major topics include transport phenomena; rarefied flow studies; hypersonics and shock waves; and propulsion, plumes, and jets. The CD-ROM contains the full text of all the papers accepted for publication, adding 27 to the 91 included in the bound volume. Annotation (c)2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com).
