Summary:
Given the amount of time the general population spends in indoor living and work, this book presents current studies and research on issues of safety, health, and environment. The effect of carpets, for example, on energy conservation, thermal comfort, and sustainability is described and a comparative study on air quality in various types of buildings is presented. Also included is a study on the benefit of using environmentally friendly products compared to using more traditional products containing biogenic volatile organic compounds. Some theoretical aspects of CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) is given as well as a literature review on the existing thermal comfort models. The use of CFD for indoor airflow simulation are also reported. A further chapter analyzes theories of stress and health and an integrative framework for personal and workplace well-being. Finally, this book addresses the concern of indoor mold: its cause, prevention, methods of removal, and health issues.
