- Summary:
- Combat soldiers who have been on ground all across the globe, irrespective of the uniform they wore and the cause they fought for, would have at one point or another, waited in patience surrounded by the pristine beauty of nature. The fragrance of fresh dews and the ambience with butterflies fluttering over flowers and night flies with occasional glows are a soldier s companion and how the landscape transforms with the first shot tearing through the stillness of the night is the essence of soldiering. It was a moonless night. The foliage was dense with thick elephant grass brushing along the cheeks that one would have otherwise let out a shriek as the sharp leaves tore through the soft skin. Coupled with that, was the highly humid weather and sweat trickling all across. One doesn t even have the inclination to the itchy sensation on the forearms lest the weapon and equipment make undue noise and give away the element of surprise. One could hear one s own footsteps on the fallen leave as one inched towards the militant hideout. All was quiet with occasional noise of the crickets that would go silent as the first shot tore through the silence of the night One could see the pilots peering down their instrument console and occasionally peering out. The strain even at that distance was visible on their faces. Through, the dimly lit cockpit, the telescopic sight of the German sniper rifle picked up a shadow of a bearded figure. And herein lies the soldier s dilemma, is that the hijacker or a steward giving a cup of coffee to the pilots? His fist tightened along the pistol grip with his forefinger curled around the trigger. But, that was just as far as he could go Novels mean stories."
