Summary:
Dissonant lyre analyses the characteristics and functions of the grotesque in the lyric poetry of Bernardo Guimarães and Cruz e Sousa. The grotesque is manifested in the work of both in the form of strange and unexpected images that suggest an extravagant and rebellious lyrical universe, often opposed to traditional aesthetic conventions, particularly romantic ones. It is an original contribution to the studies of the two poets, insofar as it unveils the aesthetic ruptures, typical of modern lyricism, undertaken by them in their historical-literary moment.
