Summary:
On the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the publication of the book Craftsmen and traders in Cairo in the 18th century, the French Institute for Arab Studies in Damascus undertook to organize, on a suggestion from 'Abd al-Razzaq Moaz, a conference paying tribute to André Raymond, director of IFEAD from 1966 to 1975. Introduced by a retrospective analysis of André Raymond on his own work, this work constitutes the Proceedings of this event which took place in May 1999.
