- Summary:
- This research explores the possibility, also thanks to an updating path related to the acquisitions of the historical-economic, archaeological and linguistic disciplines of the last decades, to de-structure the ideological construction of ancient sources on Donatism; an attempt was made to overcome the perspective deformation operated by Ottato di Milevi and Agostino, identifying the attribution of meaning and meaning that the protagonists gave to the events. This has led to the recognition of elements of the Donatist identity construction that have so far remained on the fringes of historiographical reconstruction, and to a more in-depth knowledge of the "normalization" methods employed by catholica after the Carthaginian Conlatio of 411.
