Summary:

A parchment covered volume comprising clippings from English newspapers spanning the years from 1782 to 1812. Many of the clippings appear to be from the Ipswich journal printed in Suffolk, England. The scrapbook was probably compiled by James Smith Terry. The volume was originally used for mathematical exercises and word problems. Twenty-six pages at the end of the volume comprise handwritten word problems with solutions. Terry's initials and signature are written on several pages. One word problem at the end of the volume concerns a calculation for the year 1782 suggesting Terry collected the clippings. Two columns of articles are pasted over the math problems on each page. Articles are also pasted on inside the front and back covers. The articles have a broad range of subjects including public accounts of the kingdom, letters, anecdotes, accidents, arrests, executions, poems, epitaphs, obituaries, ships, battles at sea, and a few recipes. Some items of note include "Description of the poison tree in the island of Java," a letter from George Washington to Sir Henry Clinton, the arrest of pirate Morris Keaton in Jamaica, and "Further account of the natives in Botany Bay."
