Summary:

Volume containing the fifth edition of Thomas Walter's Grounds and rules of music explained (Boston, 1760); manuscript transcriptions of contemporary music, copied in parts similar to those in the printed music; and manuscript accounts of Jonathan Burbank dated 1786 to 1806. The manuscript music includes several tunes, such as Buckingham, St. Martin's, Burnham, Kidderminster, Ely, and Dalton; A funeral thought; American challenge; and A dialogue of Daman and Clara. Some additional music has been added on the blank sides of the plates of printed music, including a Bangor tune. The accounts document payments for labor by men and oxen, tiles, bricks, butter, and shoe repairs. The accounts include mentions of Jonathan Burbank's various family members: Elizabeth Burbank (both his wife, 1757-1855, and his daughter, later Goodhue, 1788-1876), his brothers William Burbank (1769-1844) and Ebenezer Burbank (ca. 1773-1849), and his sons Jonathan Burbank (b. 1786), Gershom Burbank (b. 1792), Ebenezer Burbank (1794-1868) and Moses Burbank (1798-1888).
