Biography/History:
Born on April 21, 1782, to Jacobus and Maria Ostrander in Rensselaer, New York. Tobias Ostrander was a teacher of mathematics and published works concerning numbers, astronomy, and measurements. He lived in Lyons, Wayne County, New York. Tobias married Roxea Fish on July 31, 1803, and they had four children.
Summary:
Autograph letter, signed, dated June 11, 1832, from Tobias Ostrander to Horatio N. Young of Saratoga County, New York, husband of Elizabeth Ostrander. Tobias Ostrander discusses selling his manuscripts (specifically "The Planetarium, and Astronomical Calculator," published later in 1832) and his desire to travel to New York and Philadelphia. Ostrander also discusses his financial debt and requests a balance due from Young to aid in paying for typesetting.
