Summary:
Enzymology at the Membrane Interface: Intramembrane Proteases, Volume 584, covers a subset of enzymes that work in the environment of the biological cell membrane. This field, called interfacial enzymology, involves a special series of experimental approaches for the isolation and study of these enzymes. Volume 584 focuses on proteolytic enzymes that access their transmembrane peptide substrates in the membrane phase (interfacial proteases). Biochemical characterization of bacterial and eukaryotic transmembrane proteases are also covered, as well as, kinetic studies including substrate specificity and inhibition. Also discussed are studies that probe the structure of transmembrane proteases, and production of recombinant transmembrane proteases.
