- Examines OMB metropolitan area program to provide standards for collecting, tabulating, and publishing Federal statistics for U.S. geographic areas. Discusses June 2010 OMB announcement of new standards for delineating these areas in 2010 to 2020 and the 2013 scheduled release of lists showing actual delineations of core-based statistical areas. Details 2010 standards, reviews intended and unintended uses of designations, and addresses difficulty of ascertaining how metropolitan area designations affect Federal funds allocation.
