Summary:
A portrait of the Czech composer Krystof Maratka presented by the astrophysician Hubert Reeves. Krystof Maratka's works bear witness of the composer's multicultural background. Born in Czech Republic, Krystof Maratka gets his first music education at the Conservatory of Prague where he studies the piano, and later on composition. Following the fall of the Communist regime in Czech Republic, the young composer moves to France, where he discovers the new opportunities offered by the computer technologies at the Center for contemporary music (IRCAM, Paris). Attracted by imaginary worlds, Krystof Maratka draws his inspiration from diverse sources such as the works of the Russian poet Daniil Harms, the traditional and virtuoso repertoire of Czech Republic, or even astrophysics. Throughout this documentary, the voice of the astrophysican Hubert Reeves reveals how these different sources of inspiration nurture the works of the Czech composer Krystof Maratka.
