Summary:

On Kawara (1932-2014) wordt beschouwd als een van de belangrijkste en radicaalste hedendaagse kunstenaars. Zijn oeuvre staat volledig in het teken van plaats en tijd, begrippen waarmee hij het menselijk bestaan in kaart probeerde te brengen. On Kawara: 1966 verschijnt naar aanleiding van de gelijknamige tentoonstelling in het Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens en spitst zich toe op On Kawara's productie van 1966, een sleuteljaar binnen zijn oeuvre - het was het begin van zijn wereldberoemde date paintings. Dit is het laatste project waar de vorig jaar overleden kunstenaar aan meewerkte, in dialoog met curator Tommy Simoens. Hoewel het werk van On Kawara goed vertegenwoordigd is in de Belgische kunstcollecties, is dit de eerste institutionele tentoonstelling in België sinds zijn expo in het Brusselse Paleis voor Schone Kunsten in 1975.
