Summary:
This collection of twelve case-studies surveys a variety of clinical applications for Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). The editors, Thomas (eating disorders) and Drake (mental health, U. of Chester), stress that this is not a specialist text or a diagnostic manual, just case studies--some of which show progress and others struggle. An opening chapter introduces what CBT is, why people use it, its theoretical bases, and practical application. After which, each chapter focuses on a patient and the presentation of some symptom or issue, such as: panic disorder, chronic depression, social phobia, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, conduct disorder, bulimia, anorexia, and dependent personality disorder. The contributors are largely psychologists teaching at U. of Chester and therapists. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
