- Summary:
- The study of methods in social science research is straightforward, but the study of the philosophical bases of methodology, interpretation, and explanation (positivism, relativism, and realism) entails controversies. Besides describing the principal types of research designs and their methodological challenges, Perri (social policy) and Bellamy (emeritus, public administration), both with Nottingham Trent University, treat an issue rarely discussed in methods texts: how to draw defensible--not just generalizable--arguments from combining research results and the trade-offs involved. The text includes examples from various disciplines, exercises, further basic and advanced chapter reading, and a glossary. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
