Summary:
This volume gathers seventeen papers by Italian and French Renaissance studies specialists on Gabriele Simeoni and the edition of three of his works, two of which are still unpublished to this day. Curious, eclectic and ambitious, this Florentine man, who lived in France, embraced many fields of knowledge. His adventurous life tells us about the condition of the courtier, always looking for sponsors, and led him to associate with printers in Lyons, where he showed his talents as an editor. He was the first French letter-writer to be published and the first cartographer of Auvergne. Simeoni, whose concern with his self-image is reflected in all his works, also wrote his autobiography, here edited for the first time. He is an author who remarkably embodies the transition from the sprezzatura of the Renaissance courtier to the melancholy of the modern intellectual.-- Provided by the publisher.
