The general belief is that the author of this defence was Samuel Adams ... though it has been ascribed to William Cooper, to James Otis and to Otis and Adams combined. In defense of Boston against letters published there in 1769 under title: Letters to the Ministry from Governor Bernard, General Gage, and Commodore Hood, and also memorials ... from the commissioners of the customs ... --NUC pre-1956.
