Between December 1921 and January 1922, an estimated 30,000 were Imprisoned for non-cooperation. Those were brave days, the memory of which endured and became a cherished possession for all the political actors. They did not fear death. Of the many messages Jawaharlal Nehru sent from prison to Congress workers, the one sent to fellow citizens on 8 December 1921 stated: 'Friends, I go to jail with the greatest pleasure, and with the fullest conviction that therein lies the achievement of our goal.'
