- Summary:
- Anthony Cragg (*1949) ist einer der bedeutendsten internationalen Bildhauer der Gegenwart. Der in Wuppertal lebende britische Künstler, bis 2013 Rektor der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf und international vielfach ausgezeichnet, liess sich von Anfang seines Schaffens an von dem Vorbild der Natur inspirieren. Craggs grossformatige Skulpturen aus Metall, Marmor, Holz und Glas sind von organischen Naturformen angeregt und von faszinierender Ästhetik. Im Vordergrund steht das Material als stärkster Ausdrucksträger der Skulptur. In langwierigen Entstehungsprozessen der Formung sowie Material- und Oberflächenbehandlung 'wachsen' förmlich Skulpturen in den Raum, die einen fast wesenhaften Charakter haben oder in Windungen und Wölbungen an unendlich wachsende Strukturen erinnern. Das Katalogbuch dokumentiert neue Werke sowie erstmals Beispiele aus der Fossilien- und Mineraliensammlung des Bildhauers -- eine Premiere der besonderen Art.
