Summary:
The Sociology Student's Guide to Writing is a brief, economical reference work that gives practical advice about the writing tasks and issues that undergraduate students face in their first sociology courses. Used by itself or in combination with other texts, this book will increase the quality of student writing and enhance their knowledge of how sociologists communicate in writing. Available for free when bundled with SAGE sociology texts, or for purchase as a stand-alone title. Covers traditional topics such as academic structure, searching for information, drafting and revising, and working with sources. Addresses a wide range of writing tasks and situations, including literature reviews, analytical essays, argumentative essays, compare and contrast essays, reflection/expository essays, organizing assignments, common college student errors, academic presentations, and research papers. Discusses writing for online forums (email, blogs) and many ways to use technology in the process of information-gathering and writing. Includes career-oriented topics such as preparing a C.V., writing cover letters and letters of intent, and preparing for the GRE. Writing in Practice sections, written by professionals and recent sociology majors, show how principles discussed in the book are applied in real settings. Book jacket.
