- The age of Hellenism, which lasted about three centuries from the reign of Alexander the Great in 324 to the founding of the principate by Emperor Augustus in 27 B.C., was marked by an enormous development of all spheres of culture and science. The book presents a comprehensive overview of central aspects of the Hellenistic history: of the history of the arts as well as their aftermath: the visual arts, the sciences (e.g. geography, astronomy, mathematics, physics, medicine), the literature (philology, historiography and poetry), philosophy (epicureism, stoicism and skepticism) as well as the religious development (including gods worship, mystery religions and rulership).
