Summary:
Hailed by USA Today as "the master of Alternate History", Harry Turtledove has re-created the War to End All Wars -- a World War I where the Confederate States of America and the United States of America are on opposite sides, and all the viciousness of modern combat comes to the shores of North America.
The United States is allied with Germany, while the Confederacy is allied with Britain and France. In the South, the slaves have been freed, but they are still badly oppressed, and when they launch a Marxist revolution, the Confederacy finds itself fighting on two fronts. But when the Confederates finally (and bitterly) sue for peace, President Teddy Roosevelt turns them down...and the bloodshed continues.
