Biography/History:
The Massachusetts Scientific Library Association was formed in 1826 to create a specialized circulating library of scientific books. A committee was formed to solicit subscriptions for the new endeavor organized by the secretary of the committee Edward Brooks. Lacking enough funds to create a new facility a meeting was held at the Boston Athenaeum in May 1826. The meeting resulted in the Scientific Library Association turning over its paid subscriptions to the Athenaeum where the scientific book collection was expanded.
Summary:

There are approximately 122 names on the list of subscribers. Subscription payments were $5 for annual subscribers, $50 for life proprietors, and $100 for proprietors. Interestingly in the list of not-collected funds is Daniel Webster and scientific library committee member Israel Thorndike, Jr.
