本书是浙江省文物考古研究所承担的指南针计划"运用现代科学技术开展原始瓷起源及先秦原始瓷制作技术发展综合研究"项目的研究成果之一.东苕溪位于浙江北部,是夏商原始瓷窑址的重要分布区.2010年初,浙江省文物考古研究所"瓷之源"课题组会同湖州市博物馆,德清县博物馆对东苕溪流域商代原始瓷窑址进行了专题调查并取得了丰硕成果,为探索瓷器起源提供了重要的实物资料.
