Examines economic challenges facing many countries in the region and their limited integration in the world economy, including weak economic ties with the U.S. Reviews current U.S. trade and investment policy efforts in the region, and analyzes various policy options for increasing trade and investment with MENA countries. Discusses whether increased trade and investment can support or lead to successful democratic transitions and political stability, and possible implementation questions that policymakers in Congress and the Administration may face.
