- Discusses issues related to debate over U.S. ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CPRD), a multilateral agreement to promote, protect, and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by persons with disabilities. Reviews CPRD objectives and structure, Obama Administration actions, Senate actions, and current U.S. laws protecting rights of individuals with disabilities. Examines policy issues regarding role of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, role of CRPD in U.S. foreign policy, and possible impact of CRPD on U.S. citizens and businesses abroad, parental authority, and abortion laws and policies. Also considers future issues.
