- Provides overview of gun control legislation, in light of recent introduction of S. 150/H.R. 437, both the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013, to prohibit, subject to certain exceptions, the sale, transfer, possession, manufacturing, and importation of specifically named firearms and other firearms that have certain features, as well as the transfer and possession of large capacity ammunition feeding devices. Summarizes P.L. 90-618, the Gun Control Act of 1968, and the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, including disposition of legal challenges to the 1994 ban for violation the Commerce Clause and the Equal Protection Clause. Discusses Second Amendment jurisprudence in light of the Supreme Court decision in D.C. v. Heller , and examines how lower courts have evaluated State and local assault weapons bans post-Heller .
