Summary:
Provides overview of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) created by Title X of P.L. 111-203, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Financial Protection Act, to consolidate many existing consumer financial protection responsibilities into one agency, and to implement and enforce Federal consumer financial law while ensuring that consumers can access financial products and services. Describes the nonbank supervision program, which will subject nonbanks to the same consumer protection standards as currently applied to banks. Explains structure and powers of CFPB, and discusses other early CFPB initiatives.
